At the end of a license year, you will automatically receive an annual volume certificate. This contains an overview of your packaging subject to system participation via the volumes licensed in the online store to meet the legal requirements, which also serves as proof to third parties and authorities. In the event of changes in volumes, you can do a volume correction in your account in January.

The volumes for the current year have been fixed. For the following year, however, you have the option of changing the volumes of your subscription in the customer portal by November 30. If you do not change anything, we will automatically adopt the volumes from the previous year as the new volumes for the current year.

Affected by the VerpackG are manufacturers, store owners and online traders alike, who sell their goods or products with the respective packaging commercially in Germany for the first time to the private end consumer and the packaging ends up in the waste. To participate in a dual system for this purpose means to license the packaging volumes with a system (system participation obligation).

All those affected in the packaging chain are responsible. Manufacturers, store owners and (online) retailers are equally concerned to have their packaging materials put into circulation licensed. The aim is to reduce packaging waste through better recycling and thus achieve a more efficient circular economy thanks to a higher recycling rate.

Yes, fines of up to 200,000 euros can be imposed if you do not license the packaging placed on the market and pay a license fee.

Licensing made easy?

1. Registration with the Central Packaging Register. Here you must register with your master data and, if applicable, brand name. This can be done conveniently online and is free of charge via the packaging register LUCID – https://www.lucid.verpackungsregister.org. You will then receive your registration number, which you can use to license your packaging with us as a dual system
2. Simply calculate the amount of packaging and material you put into circulation each year and register your volumes with a dual system such as Recycling Dual.
3. The information of the packaging volumes that you have reported to us, you only need to declare to the Central Office Packaging Register and keep it up to date.

All types of packaging and also outer packaging that “wrap around” the product must be licensed if they remain with the end customer in the German market. A distinction must be made between the following:
