What does a system operator in Germany do?

Recycling Dual is the first industry-supported dual system in Germany, founded by the Smurfit Westrock, Europe’s leading paper manufacturer and recycler. As a result of this affiliation with the Group, we are equally committed to quality, customer-oriented and individual service, and holistic sustainability. As an integrated system, we take packaging disposal to a new level.

We do not only close the material loop, but also ensure quality from collection to delivery of new goods. As a system operator, we collect used packaging in private households; as a recycler, we return it to the production process; and as the global leading producers of paper and cardboard, we bring recycled packaging back to the market. The high quality standards of production thus become a guideline even for collection close to households. This cycle is already closed for paper, and we are striving for comparable constellations for other packaging material.

In the future, the goal of a closed circulation should extend to all fractions, from production to recycling:

Packaging licensing / EPR – what is it?

Licensing your sales packaging ensures the take-back and recycling of packaging waste that accumulates in German households. Manufacturers, online retailers, sellers and importers of packaged goods must join a dual system, thus ensuring the take-back and recycling of their packaging.

As of now, you can license all sales packaging easily and online for 2022 and ongoing. Our online service is aimed at all small and medium-sized distributors and manufacturers. For large customers, we have individual licensing offers ready. The takeover of transport and service packaging is also part of our service portfolio.

Consulting – personal and digital

We advise you on licensing and support you in sustainable packaging optimization. New companies in particular often need help with reporting to the LUCID packaging register. Customers receive professional advice on sustainable packaging optimization in conjunction with our affiliated Experience Centers.
